Description
MSD Ignition Coil Ballast Resistor 0.8 Ohms
This MSD Ballast resistor is for use with an MSD Blaster Coil when connected to a stock points ignition system. It regulates the voltage and current supplied to the ignition coil to reduce arcing in older cars with a a points-style ignition system. The ballast is not necessary if an MSD 6 or 7-series Ignition Control is being used with the points distributor.
Overview
- Description: MSD Resistor, Coil Ballast, 0.8 ohm
- Part Number: 8214
- Supplier: MSD
Features
- Use with older points style ignitions
- Regulates the voltage to prevent the ignition coil from overheating, which can extend its lifespan
- Reduces voltage to prevent the points from wearing out prematurely
- Limits the current flow through the coil while the engine is running, which extends the life of the coil and breaker points
- When the engine starts, the ballast resistor is bypassed to allow full voltage to the ignition coil for a stronger spark
From small block street cruisers to 10,000 horsepower top fuel dragsters, MSD’s ignition systems has been the industry leader for over 40 years. MSD continues to push the envelope with cutting-edge ignition technology as well as intake manifolds and EFI systems.
